In 1912, about 400 people came to West Side Park this afternoon to hear the Hon. Perry Belmont of New York speak on Democratic Party principles. Among those in the local welcoming committee were Capt. J.R. Trevett, D.C. Dobbins, J.B. Busey, Mayor Coughlin and H.J. Robinson. They met Belmont on the noon Illinois Central train.
In 1912, the Champaign school board named the special building committee that will oversee erection of the new high school building. Named to the committee were President Gray, T.E. Smith, Robert Dimmer and Ben Long. Spencer & Temple were instructed to draw plans for the new building.

13th District 'independent' spending soars to more than $4.5 million
"Independent" spending in the 13th Congressional District race cleared the $4.5 million mark over the weekend with a more than $600,000 expenditure by the American Action Network.

In 1912, at a political rally held last night at the University Club, three speakers presented the views of the three presidential candidates resulting in a straw vote of 39 for Woodrow Wilson, 26 for Theodore Roosevelt and 11 for President William Howard Taft.

In 1912, supporters of the Progressive Party are planning an automobile caravan through Champaign County next week. On Monday, they’ll be in Seymour, Giblin, Ivesdale, Parkville, Pesotum, Tolono and St. Joseph. The next day, they will be in Fisher, Dewey, Rantoul, Ludlow, Gifford, Penfield, Royal and Ogden.
