Better times ahead, Cubs fans

Ooooo that hurt today (10-3 loss to the Sox at the Cell), but better times are around the corner, especially on Friday when we play the Cardinals and the CUBS march in the Champaign County Freedom Celebration parade. Again.

We're No. 43 in the parade order (and there don't seem to be any Cardinals parade entries this year unless they're lurking under some phony name like "Leal School Cub Scout Pack 12" or "Champaign County Coroner") so we're smack-dab in the middle. We're just behind something called the "Mounted Cowboys."

Anyway, Cubs fans get all your fellow Cubs fans together and march in proud allegiance to our Chicago National League Ballclub Inc. Wear your caps, jerseys, helmets, bandannas and batting gloves. Bring your W flags, banners and signs. Be prepared to sing and march and take abuse. And march for the great United States of American and the Founders as well.

It will be a great time on a great day!

Our granddaughter Julia says she can't wait to ride her bike the length of the parade again, wearing her Cubs outfit. And I can't wait to walk it.

We'll bring the water, you bring the energy!

Meet us on Gregory Street (a block west of Lincoln) between Oregon and Illinois streets in Urbana at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. We'll be the ones having the most fun.

Huh. Marching behind "mounted cowboys" should prove something by the end of the parade that cardinal's fans have known for decades: the Cubs stink ;-)

So Tom Kacich is a Cubs fan. Well, that's probably the only issue in the entire world that you and I would agree on.

I seem to recall you're a northsider, correct? I was born and raised a southsider, one of the few that had enough honesty and integrity to become a Cubs fan. ;)
