suggests that Champaign-Urbana has more walking/bike riding commuters than most cities in the United States -- that nearly 9 percent of the people here use one of those modes.
I saw this story shortly after my wife and I spent a good portion of the evening biking through campus. (It's probably one of the last nights we'll be able to do that before the cities fill up again). We safely rode to all kinds of places, including bell tower under construction on the South Quad, the Urban Outfitters building on Green Street, Memorial Stadium (we snuck down the tunnel to the field level and gawked up at the new west side stands; they still have a lot of work to do before the Sept. 6 opener) and the new Newman Center building on Sixth Street.
It was a great night for a bike ride.
