A few minor tweaks on N-G features

Hello, loyal readers!

As Friday's paper approaches, I wanted to let you know about a few changes we've made to features content on the pages of The News-Gazette.

The reason this comes up Friday is that three features, regularly found on Page B-6 for the past year or so, have been moved to other days to make room for more local news in that day's paper.

First, if you didn't notice, genealogy columnist Joan Griffis and her Illinois Ancestors column is moving to Wednesdays, where it will run alongside wedding announcements, engagement announcements and other milestones that closely relate to many genealogical searches anyway. I believe this will be an added value to our Wednesday pages, and Griffis' presence there is a logical move. Her first Wednesday column appeared this week, Jan. 5, on Page B-8.

Second, the Reluctant Townie is not-so-reluctantly moving from Friday to the Sunday Living section. Ryan Jackson's debut Sunday column will appear on Page F-1 this week, though it is likely to fluctuate thereafter between F-1 and F-2 depending on what else is planned for that week's section.

Third, our On The Town feature is moving to the Sunday Local section. That feature, which is a small story and several photos from a local benefit or recognition gathering, is on hiatus for the month of January (as such events are few this time of year) but will make a return as soon as possible and will appear on Page B-5 or B-6.

Speaking of On The Town: We recently decided to open up that feature to reader-submitted photos that relate to charitable contributions. Anyone interested can send one high-resolution photo and a complete description of the occasion, including accurate ID of everyone in the photo, to onthetown@news-gazette.com. We will run a group of those kinds of photos occasionally as space permits.

If you have any questions about these changes, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at tmancuso@news-gazette.com or by phone at 351-5219.

As always, thanks for reading.
