Rehearsals for Champaign "Messiah" performance resume Thursday

URBANA — Six more rehearsals remain for the annual Handel’s Messiah presentation at the Canaan Baptist Church. All interested singers may join the rehearsals, which will be on Thursday and continue Nov. 3, 10 and 17 and Dec. 1 and 8.

The rehearsals begin at 7:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary, 402 W. Main St., U. The choir is singing the G. Schirmer edition; singers may use their personal scores or scores will be provided upon request. The Messiah choir is directed by deacon Willie T. Summerville.

There also will be praise music performed during the second part of the Messiah performance at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 in the Canaan Academy Gymnasium. The choir will be accompanied by an orchestra and feature several new soloists. The concert is free and open to the public; a free-will offering will be taken for the Canaan Academy’s Scholarship Fund.
