Open government resources
In conjunction with national Sunshine Week, we've started to build a FOIA resource page that can help you get access to records. Online editor Mike Howie has plans to build the site into a useful source of information on open government at the local, state and national levels.
We've posted links to government bodies' sites, ways to get the text of the state FOIA, the lists of requests at the University of Illinois and more. We'll keep adding more over time.
Last week, Gov. Pat Quinn's office initiated the Sunshine Project, which is described as "an initiative of the Governor's Office supported by the legislature ... that brings state government into the light." The state site has information on 20 top categories that serve the public interest as judged by Sunshine Week. You may want to check it out.
