Here is a guest post by The News-Gazette's online editor, Mike Howie, on the subject of comments. I posted Monday on the subject of comments and why we delete some and disallow comments for some stories on our website. My post evoked some reaction, and Mike further explains our reasoning. Mike is the person who most often monitors comments.

We recently received a message from a user of our website asking in rather colorful language why we don't allow comments on stories that involve race and crime. The answer is simple. We want comments on stories on our website to maintain a civil tone.


Some changes in the paper in the new year

As readers may have noticed, we've made a few changes in the content of the newspaper or moved some things around to different days. Here's a rundown.
