Dads: What do you really want for Father's Day?

Dads: What do you really want for Father's Day?

I have observed the births of two human beings, and so I know that it's the mom who does the work, then and much of the time thereafter.

How did there even get to be a Father's Day? Was this a gender equity move? If Wikipedia is to be believed -- and who knows? -- this is the 100th anniversary of Father's Day, and about the 70th or so anniversary of the necktie trade getting involved.

For all those jokes about Father's Day, I don't mind neckties. There are three of my favorites at the bottom of this entry. And I could use some socks, too.

But I'm a fan of the gadgets.

So dads, here’s our shot.

Give your children or spouse some idea of something you would really like to have for Father’s Day. Some of us are difficult to buy for, and hinting honestly doesn't hurt. I hope.

Let’s keep this budget-conscious: List a gadget or something electronic that’s $25 or so that you would really enjoy. If it’s obscure, give people a little help in shopping for it.

I’ll go first. I’d enjoy the DVD of Sherlock Holmes.

(p.s. Here's the answer to Monday's blog entry: the washing machine.)
