Waiter, there's a tablet in my candy bar
Remember story problems? I used to love story problems. If Car A leaves Memphis heading north on I-57 at 51 mph and Car B leaves Champaign heading south on I-57 at 54 mph…
… The other drivers will be telling them to get off the road.
But seriously: If 100 people get a chocolate bar, and four of them have tickets for a free Samsung tablet, what are the odds that I get one of the freebies?
One-in-25 odds is what you’ll find on Thursday at the Champaign Verizon store, 910 West Town Center Blvd..
Thursday is the day Verizon’s 4G LTE network launches in Champaign-Urbana and to lure you in, Verizon is giving a chocolate bar to the first 100 customers who show up, starting at noon. Four of the bars will have “golden tickets,” good for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. Of course, the folks at Verizon would like you to sign up for the 4G service on that tablet, but they tell me that it will also work with wifi.
Doug Trent, retail store manager at the Champaign site, said no chocolate bars will be handed out before noon. He said the store has made provisions in case there’s a line.
Now, how can I sneak out of work on Thursday… If Boss A is looking the other way at 11:45 a.m. and Boss B has to answer the phone at 11:46 a.m. …
