A few days ago, I listed some of the great concerts I’ve gotten to see.
That got me to thinking about who else I would like to see.
There are the concerts I’ll never get to see: Beatles, Stevie Ray Vaughan (I heard he was great at the Virginia), Dan Fogelberg, Jimi Hendrix. Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Harry Nilsson. I got to see Steve Goodman a couple of times, but I’d love to hear what he’d be writing and singing about these days. He’d have plenty of material, for sure.
But there are some musicians who I still have a chance to hear, and I’d pay good money for tickets to these shows:
Diana Krall. All she’d have to play is “A Case of You” and I’d be happy. Maybe Mr. Costello would join in on a couple of tunes.
Sinead O’Connor. I love the angry songs, the melancholy, the ballads, the traditional Irish songs she’s recorded. If the show was in Dublin, that would be even better.
Clapton. He’s just gotten better and better. For decades.
Carole King. It’s not exactly a secret that Tapestry is one of the great albums of all time. Bonus if James Taylor sings along on some of the songs.
Wailin’ Jennys. Pandora introduced me to them. I was driving back from an uncle’s visitation and the first song of theirs I heard was “The Parting Glass.” A perfect song for that moment, but I’d love to hear a couple of hours of their harmonies.
The Eagles. I’ve seen the video, but I’d love to be in a big arena with them. That’s an awful lot of talent on one stage.
The Stones. Mick. Keef. Only complaint is they probably couldn't play everything I'd want to hear.
How about you? What shows would you spend a little too much for, drive a little too far to see?
