What's a father to do?

What's a father to do?

My sons are Cubs fans.

I blame myself. I knew that half the family was made up of devoted Cubs fans (is that phrase from the Department of Redundancy Department?), and I clearly didn’t do enough to counteract that propaganda. I bought Cardinals hats for each of them as soon as they were

Blog Photoborn. We went to Busch Stadium. We went to County Stadium in Milwaukee for a Brewers-Cardinals game when they were both little. We did not go to Wrigley Field. I left an autographed Ozzie Smith card sitting out in the living room.

But it wasn’t enough.Blog Photo

Fortunately, they’re not avid baseball fans, so we don’t have the knock-down-drag-out fights.

And they’re great guys in all other respects, talented, handsome, all that.

So I can overlook the Cubs thing. The World Series in 2006 and 2011 helped, certainly.

Now, though, one of my sons, who has just finished high school, has let me down completely, and I feel the need to talk about it.

He was raised right. All around him were shining examples of the correct path.

But when his cellphone died this week, and he had graduation money to spend on a new one, well...

He got an iPhone.

Sounds like you have some smart kids. It's surprising what we can learn from the kids.  An Apple a day...

...and a small child shall lead them.

Well played.

And yes, they are both quite smart.

And I have little room to say anything, really, since he paid for the phone.
