Predictions for Illinois-Michigan

This week, NCAA Football 2012 thought the Illinois would continue their offensive slumps.  At the same time, they thought Michigan would run all over the Illini defense.  This simulation wasn't pretty.

I ended up using Mike Shaw as the Michigan running back in this one.  He was the highest rated RB Michigan has in this game and that's why I chose him.  The game doesn't do much in the way of substituting, so he got a bulk of the carries for the Wolverines, even though he hasn't really gotten too many this season.  Let's take a look at the numbers.

MY PREDICTION

#21 MICHIGAN 24          ILLINOIS 14

Is this a game Illinois can win?  Yes it is.  So were there last three losses.  While the defense for the most part has done their job, the offense desperately needs to figure some things out. Whether it's a different game plan, less substitutions or whatever, hopefully the coaching staff has been able to solve the problems to the poor offensive play the last few weeks.

Michigan is coming off a loss to Iowa and you never know how they are going to respond. After losing a tough game with Michigan State, they were able to bounce back and easily handle Purdue (man, how bad does that Illinois loss in West Lafayette look the last couple of weeks...). Now it's a loss @ Iowa. Will they come in determined to get on track, or will they be like the Illini and turn one loss into a streak? We will have to wait and see. In the end, I think the Wolverines get it done. Illinois' offense and special teams have put a lot of pressure on the defense lately by quick 3 and outs and turnovers deep in their own territory. If the Illini can cut down the turnovers, especially the ones that pretty much mean an automatic score for the opponent, I think they can win this game and get back on track. In the end, I don't think the offense can do enough to keep up with Denard Robinson and company.

What do you guys think? Is it win #7 on the season for the Illini or will it be our 4th loss in a row? Let me know with your predictions below. Keep in mind Big Ten basketball tickets are still up for grabs at the end of the regular season so keep those predictions coming.

Talk to you guys after the game!

I-L-L...

What a week in the college football....right or wrong, Joe Paterno linked to predatory abuse of kids...Missouri to the SEC!!!...Northwetern wins at Nebraska....the two supposedly best teams in college football can't score a TD in 60 minutes of play...what's wrong with this picture?

I have no idea on this game...Iowa beat 'em last week...is this good or bad?

Gonna be tough to keep up with Denard & Co, but I think the offense is finally going to wake up.  Ready to see win #7 in person!

Penn State is 8-1 and we just missed a FG to tie at the end of regulation.  I'm not sure why people think we played terrible.  Michigan will be motivated after their loss at Iowa but so will we.  We need the special teams to be adequate.  They don't need to make great plays, just make the average ones - kick short field goals, catch punts, not give away any long returns, etc...  Time for the offense to step up.  I would still like to see some 5-10 yard passes on first down.  It should be easy to hit some of those which will loosen up the Michigan defense.

Illini's offense hits rock bottom as all they can muster is two pathetic field goals.

Scheelhouse continues to struggle and is unable to drive the team to score. Zook stays with him regardless.

Defense cannot contain Robinson as he rushes for 200 yards and throws for 250 yards more. Angry Illini fans file out of Memomorial stadium pleading for AD Thomas to fire zook..

Asked why he didnt remove Scheelhouse from the game Zook replied he will have to look at tape to see how scheelhouse actually played. Zook was heard saying" hey at least we are 6-4 Ihe fans should be elated".

The game against penn state 2 weeks ago was a tough one to take (and watch for 3 quarters.) To me, it didn't seem like the conditions were that bad for each team to run the ball 3 times and punt every offensive series. I also wasn't on the field during the game, so what do I know? I do know that the pass interference call on Justin Green  in the end zone was (can't write what i want to write so i'll say...highly questionable.)

Onto this week's game. I think this one is a tossup. No one really knows which team is going to show up on either side. I say the extra week to prepare for Michigan and a little home cookin help the Illini pull this one out in a nailbiter. We may see another multiple overtime game in this one, but probably not 132 combined points.
