Illinois-Iowa Predictions and Prediction Standings

There isn't much to say.

Everything you can say about last night's game has already been said about a thousand times. It's a struggling team searching for any bit of good news. Unfortunately for them, their plane took them to Columbus, Ohio to play a revenge seeking top ten team. The best case scenario would have been for Illinois to come of out the gate with some energy and fight, but it was the Buckeyes who got the daggers out early. The Illini started so flat that not even a wonder bra could have lifted them up. Mentally, Illinois lost this game before the tip. Hard to believe, but it has now been nine losses in the last ten games, and the men's team has the exact same conference record as the women's team (5-10).

I've updated the prediction standings. I know it's tough to continue predicting when the team you love isn't playing all that great, but the standings remain close. Here's how things look after 21 games.

Looking ahead to Sunday...

MY PREDICTION

ILLINOIS 67        IOWA 64

It's obvious that this team couldn't look any worse. It's obvious that some people out there really dislike Weber and would enjoy continued failure if it meant a new coach was the result. However, it's obvious that this team has some talented players and at some point that talent will once again shine through. This is a team searching for something positive to latch on to, and I feel Sunday will be just that. Iowa has had an alright season for their standards, but here's hoping Illini Nation offers positive support at Assembly Hall this weekend.

I want to see this team win. I would like to see Weber keep his job because that means things are going well. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it. I don't care who coaches or who plays, I will always root for wins and support whoever is involved with the program. Since Bruce Weber is the coach, I am a Bruce Weber supporter until Mike Thomas decides otherwise. If he decides to pursue a new head coach, then I will support whomever it is he hires, even if it is someone I've never heard of. I may not be the biggest fan, but I am an Illini “fan”. That's why I say “Go Illini!” and “Go Bruce Weber!” I bet that sounds like nails on a chalkboard to some people.

What do you guys think? Do the Illini give the fans a reason to smile again or do the chalk up another one in the loss column? Let me know with your thoughts and predictions below. Talk to you guys after Sunday's game.

I-L-L...

Please make the pain stop before this game, MT. It should have been done 2 years ago.  McClain interim, then Get Smart.

Death Spiral continues.

Not a good game against Ohio State. That game seemed like it was over before it started and looked like Illinois showed up about 8 minutes too late. The first 8 minutes were terrible to watch: it didn't look like Illinois cared whether it won or lost. It also didn't help Ohio State came out on fire. Michigan did us no favors by beating OSU last Saturday. After the first 8 mins, Illinois played ok but by that time it was too late. Good to hear the comments from Meyers sticking up for his coach after the game. Not that it will really matter.

As for Iowa: Not sure what to think. Iowa just beat Wisconsin for a season sweep (raise your hand if you called that at beginning of the year...and i will call you a liar!) We have to start playing some better defense. I say Illinois loses another close one. I hope there is at least a decent crowd for the last 2 home games. This team has put in the practice time and effort to deserve it.

Mr Young, I agree with you.  I am an Illini Fan all the way.

This year has been a long season though; and, the facts and stats have swadded my judgement a bit about our coach.  I really want to see the Illini win, for themselves, not just us fans. The players need a victory more than ever.  I hope and pray they get it...

Go Illini!!!

I actually wasn't gonna play..things are so depressing around here, but for the integrity of the contest I'll cough up a score that I hope is wrong, really. The train is off the track. Until the fellas show me they can win one..and today is their best shot..I'm gonna go with the other guys...Nothing could be more distasteful than picking the Iowa bunch. It scares me that they beat Wisky twice..how in the hell did that happen anyway? So, with apologies to Jimmy and Deon...
