MY PREDICTION
ILLINOIS 64 #13 MICHIGAN 60
It's unlikely a win will be picked up here, but here's to thinking the Illini play a little looser on Thursday. It may not have been as big a win as Ohio State or Michigan State, but this team desperately needed a victory of some kind after losing nine of ten. It wasn't by any means a perfect game, but it was nice to see Illini play hard and get back to winning on their home floor. I'm hoping that effort, along with the win over Iowa, gives this team a confidence boost that they haven't had for a while and allows them to finish the season strong. Their tournament chances are pretty bleak, but they aren't by any means eliminated. Another top 25 victory and you never know what the brackatology fatheads will do. Get to 20 wins overall and they might find a way to sneak in. I'm probably getting ahead of myself here, so let's just focus on the Wolverines.
What do you guys think? Do the Illini make it two in a row at home or is it back to their losing ways? Let me know with your thoughts and predictions below. Talk to you after Thursday.
I-L-L...
Illini 73
Michigan 66
Wolves go cold on the road. DJ has his career game and Brandon goes nuts on defense. Meyers, well...... Meyers dominates, and JB keeps them honest, while Tyler and Tracy provide the energy. That's right - TYLER GRIFFEY FOR ENERGY. Everyone in the pool.
I am very happy to have been wrong last time,,,if we could just get one win a year, I would pick Iowa every time..I don't know who will show up Thursday night...they could blow us out or it could be close and up for grabs at the end...we are a 1 point favorite, at least as of this moment, which means the betting gurus don't have any idea either...the guys won last time out and I chose the other team...will it work twice? I hope so.....
Wolverines 61
Illini 60
Huge game tonight and a must win. Illinois needs to come out determined, energetic, and intense, just like they came out against Iowa. They need physical man to man defense against Michigan's guards and to not let them get a sniff of an open look from three. If the shot selection isn't there early for Michigan, they'll become impatient and just start chucking up contested jumpers instead of slashing the lane and circling the ball. That's how you beat this team. Play tough defense, crash the boards, and make the effort plays and you can get this one. I think we see a spirited Illinois team again tonight that throws everything they've got against a Michigan team wanting to make up for a terrible home performance against Purdue and edges them with a final possession Brandon Paul dagger.
Illinois: 73
Michigan: 71
Michigan is a jump shooting team. That means if they are hitting shots, they are very hard to beat. But when they're not hitting shots, they're not that tough. That bodes well for illinois tonight as jump shooting teams usually don't play great on the road (SEE: Indiana.) Tim Hardaway, Jr is who makes Michigan "go"....gotta stop him and get a hand up on shooters. Gotta be ready for changing defenses from Beilein and co. I actually think illinois will win by 3 tonight, but for the guess, I am going to go with Michigan for the simple fact that i picked illinois to lose to iowa and we won....hoping some superstition will work tonight. Not out of the NCAA tourny yet!!! Let's go!
Michigan: 67
Illinois: 64
