INDIANA 35 ILLINOIS 17
Illinois is listed as a two point favorite in this game, but with how they've looked in their last few weeks, I'm having a hard time picking them to win anything from here on out. The Hoosiers might be in the middle of a five game losing streak, but there is one thing promising about them in all five losses; they've scored a lot.
Indiana is averaging close to 35 points a game during their five game skid, including a 49 point output against #8 Ohio State. This offense is on fire, and an Illini defense might be the kerosene they need to have another monster offensive game.
If you score close to 35 points a game in five straight losses, it goes without saying that their defense is pretty bad. You would think this bodes well for Illinois, but they've been in this situation before. Remember Louisiana Tech? After eight games, La. Tech ranks 114th in the nation in points allowed at 38.0 a game. This is awful considering their schedule so far has included struggling teams like Rice, UNLV and Idaho, three teams with a combined record of 4-20. Louisiana Tech is putting together a special season, but it's only because they have the top offense in the country. Their defense is a joke. With that being said, do you know which team scored the fewest points against them this season? Sadly, it was our Illini here in Champaign, when they only gave up 24 points. Illinois played a terrible defense, and could only muster 24 points. With how the offense has played in every other game, minus that Charleston Southern waste of time, why should we expect it to be any different?
Maybe the bye week will do some good. Maybe the team will be well rested and finally be able to play aggresively. Maybe we finally get a running game going and are able to control the ball, which is something you have to do against a good offensive team. Maybe Coach Beckman went back to to the drawing board figured out the magic formula needed to get this team playing like they did in the first half of 2011. Maybe....none of that happens at all, and we lose a home to Indiana. Happy Homecoming...
What do you guys think? Will the Illini snap out of this funk, or will they get Hoosier Daddy'd by Indiana? Let me know with your thoughts and predictions below.
BIG NEWS!! We are going to give away prizes again! I don't know exactly what they are going to be yet, but I do know they are men's basketball tickets. I think I will have two pair to give away. If that's the case, one pair will go to whoever wins this year's prediction standings. The other winner be drawn from everyone who either 1) made a prediction in every single game this season or 2) correctly picked a score one time. If you have any questions, email me at email@example.com. Once I find out for sure what's going on I will relay it on to you.
Bobby Knight just got done watching Illinois' defense a couple of weeks ago in Ann Arbor. That, or maybe he should have had a Keystone Light to avoid that bitter beer face.
