OSU Thoughts, Standings, & Purdue Predictions

OSU Thoughts, Standings, & Purdue Predictions

Fun…

Not so fun…

Blog PhotoLike last week, I’m going to take the glass half full approach by highlighting the fact that the Illini were not blown out as bad as many predicted.  Yes, the defense is still porous, but the play of Nathan Scheelhaase is keeping this team competitive.  It seems, though, that there’s one bugaboo per game (today, early turnovers) that prevents the squad from getting over the hump.  Maybe the stars are aligning for that to happen next week.  Until then, continue to vent.

Speaking of venting…

To the standings…

Blog PhotoBrownie832 takes top honors this game, as he/she missed the margin of victory by just one point.  Illiniearl’s devilish pick came back to bite him, as he comes in last place among those who correctly picked the victor.  Jruss62 and smccaw_11748 round things out as the two pickers out of 26 who picked an Illini win.  No prize for this, but kudos goes to burkejo for predicting a V’Angelo Bentley return for a touchdown.  Overall, Blog Photowe saw no changes among the lead dogs who are all now 9-1.

On to the next one…

I’m not meaning to shortchange y’all with my analysis, but I could probably do a copy and paste from last week’s blog…replacing “Buckeyes” with “Boilermakers” and “good” with “bad”.  The squad like to spread the ball around amongst its receivers but can’t seem to get the ball in the end zone much.  Various media reports I read also pointed out the squad’s lack of physicality and ability to respond to adversity.  Earlier this week, Boilers coach Darrell Hazell deflected questions about whether he’s in over his head…

So in other words…Purdue is the Illini’s dream opponent!  I kid, I kid.  But seriously, this is one that the O & B need to get to avoid hitting rock bottom.

My prediction:  Illinois 35, Purdue 14

By the way, if you can ignore the caliber of the two teams playing, there are some dirt cheap tickets out there to next weekend’s game.  I’m talking 25 cents before fees.  Purdue has a nice stadium, the roadtrip is short, and you have the potential to watch a streak be broken.  Win-win-win…no compromise.

Illini faithful flock to West Lafayette to witness a miracle.   Illini are baptised with their first BIG 10 win since J.C. was a Corporal.   Coach Beckman is saved as a head coach for yet another year.  The football program rapture begins!

Illini: 52

Poor Boilers: 24

Our history on the road at Purdue is awful, but Purdue appears to be even worse than we are this year. Both teams are an embarrassment to the reputation of the B1G, but I'll go with a shaky pick of Illinois 45 Purdue 38

Long awaited 'Battle for 11th place in Big Ten' is here Saturday. Can Illini stay out of cellar under the comical guidance of Beckman the Clown? Win their first B1G game in 21 tries? Yes, Purdue is that bad and Illini have their best chance this weekend. But Purdue could rise up to the occasion as well as it's their only chance at a win too.

Purdue 21

Really dont have any confidence in this pick. The Illini should win, with or without Beckman. FINALLY, Illini 31, Purdue 21. Goodbye Tim&Tim.
