IU thoughts, standings, & Iowa predictions
I don’t have much to say about this one because (1) the losses are starting to blend together and (2) I was busy working on my Royal Rumble draft during the game. I will say, though, that it was nice to see Ray Rice rebound nicely, but if the Illini want to win on the road in the Big Ten, it can’t be just him. My point earlier about Assembly Hall being a vicious place to play held true as well, as it appeared some Illini shots were rushed in the heat of the moment.
Time to head from the head guy...
Looking at the standings, we saw another great round of picks from you all. Mike Goebel and Green Shirt take top honors. Overall, walker remains in first place, and Green Shirt has pulled into a tie for second. Our overall number of pickers has remained steady over the past few games, so tell your friends to get in on the fun!
Next up, the squak…I mean Hawkeyes…
After I gave my not so nice assessment of Iowa last year, I quickly got an e-mail from a passionate Hawkeye fan who told me I had Fran McCaffery confused with Todd Lickliter. And this year’s Iowa squad is proving that person right. Fran has the program trending up, with even national names like Jay Bilas, Seth Davis, and Seth Greenberg in recent days saying that the Hawks have what it takes to reach the Final Four. I could highlight individuals, but overall this team excels in many facets of the game. They like to run and wear you out, which is very un-B1G-like. They get to the line often, and their studs do much of their scoring in the second half. So if you find yourself behind early, get comfortable there. Heck, they may be just as a complete team as Wisconsin, who I highlighted earlier as my B1G favorite. Gah, I can’t believe I just gushed like that about my least favorite team.
My prediction: Iowa 75, Illinois 59
While we’re at it, let’s hear your Superbowl picks. Mine: Denver 31, Seattle 20
- If you tuned in to some WDWS newscasts this week, you know the city of Champaign changed the rules regarding its honorary street program. One of them included no more renewals of designations. That means, among others, Honorary Lou Henson Court will be no more come this this time next year. Honorary Illini Boulevard will be gone by 2020. And Honorary Dike Eddleman Way is toast come 2022. So snap your photos now.
- Speaking of guys with honorary streets, I’ve made it my mission to get Loren Tate tweeting again. Drop him a line and encourage him, will ya? And follow him too. Regardless of your opinion of the guy, his 140 character thoughts will surely provide much-needed entertainment in these cold winter days.
