100 days to Camp Rantoul

Today is the first of 100 consecutive blogs counting down to the start of Camp Rantoul. On Monday, I will give you my Big Ten projections in reverse order. I will follow that with a countdown of the 50 most important Illinois football players. And that will be followed by the countdown of my preseason Top 25.

Like last season, Ron Zook plans to have the players report first to Memorial Stadium for practices starting Aug. 5. The team will have media day on Aug. 8 in Champaign, then report to Camp Rantoul that night. The first day at Camp Rantoul is Aug. 9.

It will be a different training camp, with six new coaches, a new offense and a new defense. And a new quarterback. Nathan Scheelhaase and Jacob Charest currently share the top spot and the competition will continue in Rantoul.

The News-Gazette plans another special preview section on Illinois football. We've come up with an interesting theme. More on that later.
