65 days to Camp Rantoul

For 30 days, we're ranking the nation's best teams, starting at the bottom.

No. 15: Miami

Why I like the Hurricanes: The world returned to normal because Miami was good again in football. The Hurricanes showed grittiness in the early wins against Florida State, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma. Starting quarterback Jacory Harris returns and there is Heisman talk if he can cut his 17 interceptions. The top five receivers return and seven starters are back on defense. After a rough start, Randy Shannon seems to be the right answer in Miami. He's got a long history with the school as both a player and as an assistant. He isn't leaving for another job and that means the Hurricanes are likely to get better.

Why I don't: There were some dreadful games last season, including the Champs Sports Bowl loss to Wisconsin and a blowout loss to Virginia Tech. As good as he is, Harris makes a lot of mistakes. And if he gets hurt, there is little experience behind him. The schedule was set up for the Jimmy Johnson Hurricanes, with games back-to-back-to-back games at Ohio State, Pitt and Clemson. The Hurricanes also have to travel to Georgia Tech. Though Miami is clearly moving back to being a success, the fans haven't bought in. The Hurricanes were just 50th nationally in average attendance.

Tomorrow: No. 14
