No. 6: Tavon Wilson, cornerback.
Why he's important: Start with his experience. He has started 25 games the past two seasons and played extensively as a freshman, too. He also has been moved to different spots, working as a cornerback his first two seasons, then switching to safety last year when injuries made the move necessary. He is back at cornerback, a position he feels more comfortable at because he has played it his entire life. The switch to safety in 2010 should be a boost to his NFL prospects because he'll likely play there as a pro. An honorable mention All-Big Ten pick in 2010, he led the team with eight PBUs and had 48 tackles. He has two career interceptions and would like to more than double that total his final season. He is the leader of the Illinois cornerbacks and should provide help to Terry Hawthorne and Justin Green. All three will be on the field often during the 2011 season.
Fast fact: He is one of the rare Big Ten players to make consecutive appearances at the league's media kickoff event.
