Counting down the 50 most important Illini

No. 12: Darius Millines, receiver.

Why he's important: He isn't this high on the list, tops among the Illinois receivers, because of what he has done to this point in his career. He is this high on the list because of his potential. In two seasons, he has caught 21 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns. For the Billy Gonzales/Chris Beatty offense to succeed, they will need the Floridian to double those numbers. At least. There are questions about his health. A foot injury cost him part of the 2011 season and he missed some work in Camp Rantoul because of an apparent shoulder injury. But when healthy, he figures to be a go-to receiver for Nathan Scheelhaase.

Fast fact: A three-star recruit in high school, Millines had all sorts of college options. He picked Illinois over Florida, Miami, West Virginia, Tennessee and others.

Tomorrow: No. 11
