Counting down the 50 most important Illini

No. 20: Spencer Harris, receiver.

Why he's important: If the offense is going to work the way the coaches hope, it will need multiple threats. The junior from Arkansas, who was second on the team with 26 catches last season, has to be one of those threats. The more Harris is able to get accomplished, the better it will be for the running backs, receivers, tight ends and quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase. A trust seems to have been formed between Scheelhaase and Harris, who has sure hands and seems to be able to find gaps in the defense. Harris is a better athlete than many give him credit for and is capable of a long catch for a touchdown. He has performed well the first week of training camp.

Fast fact: If not for Paul Petrino's hiring by Ron Zook, Harris wouldn't likely be an Illini. But the high school teammate of Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson, who was being recruited by the Razorbacks, followed Petrino to Illinois.
