Camp Rantoul Closing Soon

Posted by: Bob Asmussen

it isn't closing for good. Just until the summer of 2009. Who knows, maybe by then I will have won the lottery. Or found oil in my back yard. Barring a Jed Clampett-like oil find, I'll be back with the team next summer.

My fondest memory of Camp Rantoul? Easy, the daily chats. It's great to talk to people who have a passion for sports. If you sent in a question or read the chats, you have passion for sports. Or a lot of free time. Either way, I appreciate it.

No. 2 on the favorite list is the weather. Almost perfect every day after the first. Never too hot. Not a drop of rain. A cool breeze.

No. 3 on the favorite list is my interraction with the players and coaches. The players are friendly and cooperative. The coaches answer all of our questions.

No. 4 on my favorite list are my Rantoul food stops: Ott's, Garcia's (greatest food addtiion ever), Pizza Hut, KFC, Arby's. You know who you are. Wow, I need a salad.

No. 5 on my favorite list are the nice folks at the Quarters Inn. They helped me with Internet issues and kept the media room at a cool 65 degrees. Sorry about all the calls to China, but I needed to get an update on the swimming.

I'll write you one more time on the way out of town Wednesday. Be careful if you are on U.S. 45. There will be a team of players in a hurry to get back home. The Olympics are still on.
