It's always nice to see someone stay with a sport that has been a passion, even after they've left one aspect of the activity.
When we arrived at Rantoul High School on Tuesday night for the Eagles' Corn Belt Conference match with Mahomet-Seymour, the first observation we noticed was that former Champaign Central coach Mike Marassa was one of the game officials.
He is in his second year of retirement as coach, but continues to stay active in a sport he loves. His schedule includes officiating college matches at Danville Area Community College, Parkland College and Millikin University as well as high school matches in Tolono, Centennial and Normal.
It's nice to see Marassa maintaining contact with volleyball. There seems to be no shortage of coaches, but the same can't be said of officials, so that makes his decision a good call.
