It's good to see that Schlarman High School won't have to wait until Week 2 to return their varsity football team to the field.
The Danville school had been unable to find an opponent for Week 1 until it recently cemented a date with Chicago Hope Academy, which has an enrollment of 110 students and is trying to implement a program.
Hope Academy (not to be confused with John Hope public school), had an opening on Week 2, so the schools agreed to meet in the middle.
Schlarman will travel to Chicago on Tuesday, Sept. 2 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff to its season. Three days later, the Hilltoppers will open at home against St. Thomas More.
The journey (approximately 140 miles) will be longer than the other three road trips which Schlarman will take for football -- to Georgetown, to Westville and to Jamaica. Those three, in all, will require about 50 miles. According to google, the driving time to Hope Academy will take just about 3 hours.
Hope Academy will play Hales Franciscan in its first game, on Aug. 29.
