A time for confusion

URBANA -- I will frankly admit that I don't know each and every rule for each and every sport I cover.
However, when I see something enforced two different ways, I'm smart enough to know that one of them is wrong.
Which one?
Prior to Friday's Danville at Urbana boys' basketball game, the Danville team went into the locker room while Urbana stayed on the court to warm up. Several members of the Urbana team went down to the west basket, where Danville had been practicing, and started warming up.
They were immediately re-directed to the east basket where the remainder of their teammates were shooting.
At virtually every game I've seen so far this season, one team would utilize both baskets when they were available. If that's not allowed, why has it not been enforced at all these other locations?
And, if it's not the rule, why was it applied to the game at Urbana? Did the rule just change this week?
I'll be curious to learn the answer ... and it's obvious some officials need to learn it as well. I just don't know which ones!
As for the game between two schools searching for their first Big 12 Conference contest, Danville cameaway with a 55-41 triumph. The Vikings had three double-figure scorers, led by Joey Robinson with 17 points.
Urbana had none.

The officials were correct in this case. A great way to learn the rules and keep up with the rules on a yearly basis is to purchase an IHSA rule book and case book. Also, I would suggest taking the Part 1 exam that officials must take each year.
