Calvin and Hobbes FOREVER

The most requested comic during The News-Gazette's Stay or Go comics poll in February was Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes. Hands down.

While we, unfortunately, cannot get Calvin and Hobbes in our funny pages, I feel for each person who longs to see its return. The playful and witty banter, the downright destructive antics, the artistic style -- all of it added up to create a classic.

I was walking on Mathews Avenue to the Engineering Quad -- Bardeen Quad, if you're a young person -- south of Grainger Engineering Library on the University of Illinois campus this morning and came across this little bit of graffiti. I have no idea how long it has been there, but it sure did make me smile.

Long live Calvin and Hobbes!

While I love the comic, I hate the vandalism. This is costly to the university.

I agree. Which made me think, how long has this been there?!
