I am Jeannette Beck, wife of News-Gazette Executive Editor John Beck, and a self-taught cook. We’ve raised four children, two of whom are professionals in the food industry — my quasi credentials!
Cooking and entertaining are my creative outlets. I believe strongly in the value of family meals beyond just the good nutrition they can provide, and do not tolerate picky eaters (except where liver is concerned).
I’m well past the frustrating phase of having food in the cupboards and freezer but nothing to make for dinner. I mostly cook from recipes and find them in many places, including the newspaper.
This is a volunteer effort which means I don’t receive any pay or sponsorships. I am grateful to The News-Gazette for hosting my blog.
Our recent empty nest has provided more time to experiment trying new recipes that I will write about here as well as planning menus and the social aspects of meals. My hope is to engage with home cooks with similar interests and learn from them. Maybe we’ll even inspire novice or non-cooks to become adventerous home cooks, too!
