Homemade hair accessory shines up the season

Homemade hair accessory shines up the season

Lately, I've been seeing frilly hair flowers, feathers and jewels in magazines and on fashion blogs. My December Real Simple magazine is no exception – it has an entire spread featuring unusual hair accessories.

I found inspiration in this feathery thing I bought at the I.D.E.A. Store for a quarter this fall. I didn't know what I was going to use it for when I purchased it, but I knew that I had to have it.

When I found a sparkly button in a bag of buttons from my mom, I knew it would be the perfect complement for the feathery thing. I thought they'd look good together as a hair fascinator.

I sewed the button onto the feather with dark-colored thread, and bought a package of alligator hair clips with flat tops at a local craft store. I then hot glued the feather to the clip and voila, a funky, dramatic hair accessory. It will be perfect to pair with a simple black or jewel-toned dress for a holiday party.

Profile Picture

I noticed when I took the photos that the hot glue was starting to come off. Might have to up the ante and use super glue.
