I didn't set out to make mustache sticks last night when I sat down with some cardboard, some black fleece and my glue gun, but that's what happened.
They are a cute (and trendy) addition to any party. I'm guessing part of their appeal is their goofiness, which always makes for better photos.
I'd seen the idea on blogs like this, but I hadn't planned expressly to make them. What happened was, I'd also purchased some nose glasses (again, think goofy holiday party photos) that came without mustaches. Clearly, they needed some.
So I drew my best half-a-handlebar mustache out of cardboard, and folded it over to get a symmetrical shape. I used it as a template and then cut several more. I used each cardboard 'stache as a pattern as I cut around the fleece, making sure the fleece shape was a little larger than the cardboard one. I then hot-glued around the back of each cardboard template, stretching the fleece over it. It was sticky work, but not too difficult.
When it came time to hot glue the mustaches to the noses, though, I realized they were adorable on their own. So I made several more and hot glued them to popsicle sticks.
It was a fun little project. Mine aren't as large and over-the-top as the ones in the photo I pulled from this blog, but they're cute and I think they'll make adorable photos.
