After spending a good chunk of a weekend working on our fireplace headboard, I realized that we were going to tons of effort for a place to hang our stockings - but we didn't have any of our own.
That's because I've never had a place to hang them.
Rob and I decided to fix this problem by spending a lazy Sunday afternoon decorating stockings for us and our pets.
For the human stockings, we repurposed a pair of stockings I found in my Christmas stuff and didn't even realize I had. My late grandmother made them, so we just flipped them and decorated the blank side rather than take out her handiwork.
For the pet stockings, I tried using my sewing machine to put them together - and then realized that it will only sew in reverse. Rob saved the day and sewed them by hand. He's talented like that.
To decorate them, I pulled out every red and green craft supply I could find - including ribbon and felt. I traced around a set of plastic letters we have to cut out felt letters for our names. I found some white pom-pom trim, which I love. It's hard to see in the photo, though.
I confess, I was going for instant gratification, not craftsmanship, so all trims and decorations are attached with hot glue and fabric glue. I think they turned out really cute, and they look great on our new headboard. They're the first Christmas decoration I've put up so far.
Anyone else taking on homemade Christmas decorations this year?
