Thanksgiving prep and a casualty in the battle for a flaky pie crust

I started prepping yesterday afternoon the dishes I'm bringing to my parents' Thanksgiving celebration Thursday.

I should've followed Anita Dukeman's advice and bought a pie crust. But (I know, this is lame) I didn't want to spend any more time away from our dog than absolutely necessary.

So I followed this recipe, substituting unsalted butter for shortening, and following the advice of a commenter who said all the ingredients should be chilled before mixing.

I figured chilled and frozen were basically the same thing when it came to the butter. My pastry cutter disagrees.

After I bent it all out of shape, I literally had to use my sharpest paring knife to try to cut the butter into the flour.

What's your biggest Thanksgiving prep disaster? And if you're still hunting for that perfect Thanksgiving recipe, here are some suggestions. I also prepped the Sweet Potato-Cranberry Casserole yesterday, and let me tell you - it is going to be good.
