Finished pet stairs with lots of storage are made from maple plywood
It's a rough, unfinished version for now, but Rob was able to make a wonderfully functional set of pet stairs yesterday.
He has big plans for putting a back on them, and perhaps even doors. But for now, they're the perfect size to sit next to our bed so Milou, our little dog with a sore back, can get into our bed without yelping.
It took some convincing - and a lot of treats - to get Milou to try the steps. But by the time he figured it out and I grabbed my camera, he was moving too quickly for me to get a non-blurry photo. Good thing he'll do almost anything for food.
This morning, I was in the kitchen when I heard Milou head for the bedroom. I poked my head around the corner just in time to see him climb the steps and plop on my pillow. I was so lavish in my praise he almost looked a little embarrassed. Whoops.
The pet stairs Rob made were actually his second attempt at the project, and are made of maple plywood. They're basically a series of boxes stacked together, and I'm excited that they have plenty of storage. The little cubby closest to the top was a perfect place for me to stash my phone last night.
I'm hoping we'll soon hang the barn light and find ways to make the stairs look a little more like real piece of furniture. But for now, I'll just be happy if Milou continues to at least try them.
