Exciting announcement: Taste of Home Cooking School show coming to Urbana in October

I have an exciting announcement today: The News-Gazette, The News-Gazette Community Newspapers and County Market are sponsoring a Taste of Home Cooking School show on Oct. 1 in Urbana.

I’ll be on stage at the show, so I probably will mention it frequently here over the next several weeks.

Blog PhotoThe actual show is scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at The Vineyard Church, 1500 N. Lincoln Ave, U. There’s a pre-show that will feature lots of cool vendors before the show from 4 to 6 p.m., also at The Vineyard.

If you’ve never been to a Taste of Home Cooking School show, they are lots of fun and always feature tons of great door prizes. Our show will feature Taste of Home Cooking culinary specialist Dana Elliott, who joined us at our 2011 show in Rantoul.

Tickets are now on sale — they are $15 and include entrance into the show, the pre-show and a goodie bag chock full of coupons, magazines and more. The goodie bags alone are worth the price of your ticket and include a free online subscription to Taste of Home.

You can buy tickets at the door.

We are also looking for volunteers to help us cook throughout the day Oct. 1. If you're interested, please contact Tim Evans at the Rantoul Press at 892-9613 or by emailing tevans(at)news-gazette.com.

Aug 15 edit: VIP tickets for the show are sold out.

As I continue to get excited about this show, I’m also looking for your help. Do you have a favorite Taste of Home recipe you swear by? I’m hoping to run readers’ favorites both here in my column and on my blog on The News-Gazette’s website.

I’d love it if you’d email me your recipe or mail it to me at 15 Main St., Champaign, IL 61820. Please don’t forget to include your name and town of residence when you submit it.
