Big Road Win for Illinois Soccer

Big Road Win for Illinois Soccer

Illini pick up their first road win in conference play.

It took extra time, but the Fighting Illini picked up a hard fought 1-0 win at Michigan State in a rare Saturday afternoon matinee.  Marissa Mykines put home the golden goal in the second overtime on a beautiful pass from sophomore Vanessa DiBernardo.  Head coach Janet Rayfield talked with me after the match about her team's victory, which puts the Illini over .500 in Big Ten play for the first time this season. Illinois outshot Michigan State by a healthy 23-7 margin, and had eight corner kicks to the Spartans' two.  You can see a replay of this match on the Big Ten Network on Sunday at 5pm central time.

The Illini return home next weekend for a pair of matches against Minnesota and Wisconsin.  You can hear both games live on WDWS-AM in Champaign.
