Efficiency Stats: Hoosiers Too Good

Efficiency Stats: Hoosiers Too Good

The Illini offense couldn't keep up with the Indiana juggernaut.

Illinois got off to a really slow start on offense, and that proved to be the difference in this one.  They fought Indiana almost to a draw in the second half, scoring 43 points after halftime, but had way too many turnovers and missed shots early.  Here are the efficiency numbers:

  • Illinois 0.93 PPP
  • Illinois 38.8 eFG%
  • Illinois 17.8 TO%
  • Illinois 32.5 OReb%

All of those numbers for Illinois were much better after halftime.  As for Indiana, they have so many weapons on offense, led by Cody Zeller who put up 24 points and 9 rebounds.

  • Indiana 1.24 PPP
  • Indiana 59.0 eFG%
  • Indiana 21.7 TO% (that's the one weakness this team has...a few too many turnovers)
  • Indiana 45.8 OReb% (way too high for the Illini to have a chance)

I'll update the season numbers again after Sunday.  Most bracket "experts" I see today have the Illini somewhere between a #7 and #9 seed.  We'll find out on Sunday.

Assistant Dustin Ford was pretty pleased with the overall effort today, and is looking forward to playing next week.
