Ugly. Unattractive. Not good looking. Just a few ways to describe this Illini game vs. IPFW. Fortunately, another way to describe it is simply, "win." Let's get right to my nominees for the Dick Van Dyke Appliance World "WOW!" Play of the Game, with a heavy dose of the Bulldog, Tracy Abrams.
There was some talk early in this game from CBS analyst Doug Gottlieb that Rayvonte Rice was "too short" to be a quality player in the Big Ten. Who's too short now, Doug? So, how about that Jon Ekey? Why couldn't he get minutes at Illinois State? Anyway, Ekey's personal 10-0 run in the final minutes was part of a 22-2 Illini spurt to close out a 77-53 win over Chicago State. Well, I really thought this Bradley team would give the Illini a test this evening. Not so much. Great defense from the Illini, and they really abused the Braves on the boards as well. The offense came on strong in the second half.
We had ourselves a few "grown man" plays in this one. It wasn't pretty, but the Illini fought their way to a 64-52 win over a Valparaiso team that should win a lot of games in the Horizon conference this season.
