Plays of the Game & Efficiency Stats - Valparaiso

We had ourselves a few "grown man" plays in this one.  It wasn't pretty, but the Illini fought their way to a 64-52 win over a Valparaiso team that should win a lot of games in the Horizon conference this season.  Without further ado, my nominees for the Dick Van Dyke Appliance World "Wow!" Play of the Game:

Some pretty good choices, but I think I'd have to go with number three.  Now, on to the (lack of) efficiency stats:

  • 0.96 PPP
  • 35.6 eFG%
  • 40.0 OReb%
  • 12.0 TO%

  • 0.81 PPP
  • 39.4 eFG%
  • 22.5 OReb%
  • 12.4 TO%

Coach Groce should be pleased with the defensive effort tonight.  Those are some pretty low numbers on the Valpo side.  Offensively, it was a grind tonight, especially when the Crusaders went to the zone.  In the end, some timely plays down the stretch from Abrams, Rice and Bertrand were enough to pick up the win.

Next up, the Bradley Braves come to State Farm Center on Sunday.  Should be fun!

Check back after the game for my nominees for the Dick Van Dyke Appliance World "Wow!" Play of the Game.  For now, here are the efficiency stats for the first half:

  • 1.04 PPP
  • 36.4 eFG%
  • 41.7 OReb%
  • 15.8 TO%

  • 0.83 PPP
  • 40.4 eFG%
  • 17.6 OReb%
  • 19.9 TO%

Good defensive first half for the Illini, and very good on the boards, despite going against a bigger Crusader team.  Let's see if they can figure things out on the offensive end in the second half.
