Summer 2014 is off to a rip-roaring start. Summer Camp kicked things off a few weeks ago with stellar jams from the regulars and a crowd-favorite collaboration between Old Shoe and Chicago Farmer, Wakarusa turned things up a notch and as of this writing, Umphrey's McGee is tearing it up down in Manchester, Tennessee at Bonnaroo. There's so much more to look forward to this summer though, like Old Shoe coming to the Canopy on the 20th (and don't miss Sun Stereo there tonight!). Umphrey's has upcoming tour dates in Chicago and Indianapolis, Phish returns to Chicago in July, Blottopia 15 (also in July, up in Yorkville), Mulberry Mountain Harvest Festival...man, this time of year is just the best.
Also, if you're looking for some new tunes to kick back to on a brilliant summer day such as this, try the new moe. album No Guts, No Glory. Great summertime music. For something a bit more technically demanding but also laid-back, give Chon a listen. True virtuosity is rarely this understated and unchallenging to the ear. Mastodon has a new album in the works, and Umphrey's just dropped their newest effort a few days ago (both Umphrey's and moe. played a ton of their new material at Summer Camp, it was awesome). So keep your ears in the air, people. Hopefully I'll see you on the road, on lot, or in a tent somewhere. Stay friendly.
