New Year's Shows Nearby

As winter slowly creeps up on us, threatening us with darkness and cold, it can be easy to slip into the night, cozy and warm on the couch, the warm glow of home brightening your spirits. But sometimes it's just not enough.

Good thing there are musicians in the world.

New Year's Eve is always a great time for music. If you're not going to any big bashes like Phish at Madison Square Gardens or Lettuce and Future Rock at the Riviera, there are always plenty of local events happening right under your nose.

For instance, this year at the Canopy Club we have Sun Stereo returning to close out the year, along with Church Booty and Flaccid. I believe the ticket includes a complimentary Manolo's buffet as well as some free drinks (including a champagne toast at midnight). It was a blast last year, and they really seem to have funked up the lineup this year.

This New Year's Eve, however, I'm heading just up the road to Bloomington, where John Till, Chicago Farmer, and Old Shoe are ringing in 2016 with a bang. You can tell how stoked they all are for this show; their respective Facebook pages are blowing up with posts about the show, including them asking what songs fans want to hear (which could result in quite the extraordinary setlist, given these musicians' penchant for knowing just about all of the music). In addition, their spirited collaborations onstage always lead to some surprises and unforgettable moments.

As far as I'm concerned, this show is the place to be this NYE. These musicians love their fans just as much as the fans love them, and they are swiftly climbing their respective career mountains. Shoefarmer shows always have the best energy, and John Till is no slouch either.

If you haven't finalized your New Year's Eve plans yet (or have just realized that this show is a better option), think about heading over to Bloomington. There are more details available at the Facebook page for the event, including a chance to win free tickets and some awesome prizes. Hopefully I'll see some of you there!
