A week after being named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, Illinois senior Brandon Paul on Thursday was named one of 50 players named to the preseason Wooden Award watch list.
Paul, a 6-4 guard, was a third-team All-Big Ten pick as a junior after averaging 14.7 points and 4.7 rebounds for the Illini.
The Wooden Award is presented anually to the top player in college basketball. Transfers, freshmen and medical redshirts are not eligible for the preseason list.
The Big Ten has a nation-best nine players on the preseason list. Other Big Ten players included on this year's preseason list include Michigan State's Keith Appling, Michigan's Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr., Ohio State's Aaron Craft and Deshaun Thomas, Penn State's Tim Frazier and Indiana's Christian Watford and Cody Zeller.
D.J. Cooper, who played point guard for John Groce at Ohio, is also on the preseason list.
