Aided by a win against Georgia Tech in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and losses by teams ranked higher in the polls, Illinois moved up to No. 13 in the most recent Associated Press poll released on Monday.
John Groce's squad checked in at No. 14 in the coaches' poll.
It's the highest ranking for Illinois since they were 16th midway through the 2010-11 season.
Here's a look at the complete AP poll:

Good for Illini.Shame on the pollsters. It makes one wonder if anyone is watching the games or just reading the Media clippings only. 4 cup cakes,2 the Whos,2 the Might be,equal 8 wins not 13 in the polls.Thats ok,the whole list is flawed, from top to bottom.2 months from now and read it again, then laugh.
Good for the Illini. I watched the Arizona game the other day and in the run to tie the score I saw very little difference between the syle of play implemented by Coach Groce and the Illini as they were working hard to win the game. These Illini play that hard the whole game.
Im ok with the ranking im looking to see how we handle Mizzou and Gonzaga defensively actually. I think will score this way all year and to have some lulls but the key to us winning is the maturation of the sophs and Joetales growing into his talent level and of course the freedom that tyler has shown helps his game grow so well. Its awesome. We do need help down low.Wake up Ibby and Mike grow some real fast.........If we win like that i bet this makes that other Simeon recruit reconsider his home state if we get a big ten championship.....
I think the big jump to #13 was primarily in response to the big Illinois-Gonzaga game coming up this weekend. Since that is being penned as the Game of the Week by the pundits, having a #10 vs. #13 is a bit sexier sounding matchup than even a #10 vs. #18, so I think that is why Illinois has been prematurely jumped so high. This is fairly typical of what precedes a big matchup. If Illinois wins @Gonzaga, they will definitely be deserving of the #13 ranking. If they lose, they will likely be dropped down to around 22 or 23. So it all works out in the end.
