Coming off a loss on the road to Purdue and an impressive home win against then-No. 8 Ohio State on Saturday, Illinois dropped one spot to No. 12 this week in the Associated Press poll that was released Monday.
The Illini (14-2, 1-1 Big Ten) moved up one spot in the coaches’ poll to No. 13.
The Buckeyes (11-3, 1-1) dropped to No. 15.
Illinois returns to action Wednesday with a game against No. 8 Minnesota (14-1, 2-0) at the Assembly Hall.
Michigan (No. 2 AP, No. 2 Coaches), Indiana (5/5) and the Gophers (8/10) give the Big Ten three teams in the Top 10. Illinois, Ohio State (15/14) and Michigan State (22/18) make it six in the rankings.
Gonzaga, which Illinois beat on the road a month ago, is ranked 10th in the AP poll and eighth in the coaches’ poll. Missouri, which knocked off the Illini in St. Louis two weeks ago, is 10th in the AP and 12 in the coaches’ poll.
