Illini make Alexander's top six
Five-star Chicago prospect Cliff Alexander released a list of six schools still in play for his services and the Illini are among them.
On his Twitter account (@humblekid11) Monday, the 6-foot-9, 240-pound power forward wrote his top six schools, in no particular order, are Michigan State, Illinois, Memphis, DePaul, Kansas and Arizona. Early in the summer, Alexander released a top 10 that included the aforementioned schools along with Kentucky, Indiana, Louisville and Baylor.
Alexander has made official visits to DePaul and Arizona and he's got visits with Kansas (Oct. 4), Memphis (Oct. 18) and Illinois (Oct. 26).
Also for the first time, Alexander has given a timeframe for making a decision. In an interview with ChicagoHoops.com, Alexander revealed he would likely make a decision in December. A December commitment would mean Alexander would miss the November early signing period.
Most recruiting experts who have followed Alexander's recruitment closely consider Kansas to be the favorite.
Worth watching with regards to Alexander's recruitment is JaQuan Lyle's situation, too. Lyle, a one-time Illini target recently decommitted from Louisville and he and Alexander have said through social media they would like to play together. The 6-foot-4 point guard from Evansville, Ind., is considering Arizona, Memphis,Kansas and Connecticut. He will visit Memphis and Kansas the same weekends Alexander will visit.
Already considered to have a Top-10 2014 class, Illinois has received commitments from Centennial forward Michael Finke, Memphis forward Leron Black and Louisville point guard Quentin Snider.
