Illini picked to finish eighth

At tomorrow’s Big Ten media day, the league will announce the three teams voted as the top three entering the season and a five-player preseason all-conference team. It won’t provide a 1-12 list of the predicted order of finish, but an unofficial list put together by the Columbus Dispatch’s Bob Baptist was released Wednesday.

Baptist, the Ohio State beat writer, polled 24 writers — two covering each school — and Michigan State was the unanimous No. 1 team.

Illinois was picked to finish eighth. The Illini got one fifth-place vote, eight seventh-place votes, 12 eighth-place votes, two ninth-place votes and one for 10th place.

Here’s the 1-12 rundown with Baptist’s poll.

In addition to that poll, the Big Ten Network’s Brent Yarina polled a writer from covering each Big Ten program for the individual preseason awards. No Illinois players were mentioned for first-team, second-team or third-team All-Big Ten honors.

Here’s a complete look at that poll.
