Illini among four finalists for Evans
Illinois is one of four finalists for 2015 point guard Jawun Evans.
The 6-foot guard will choose between the Illini, Oklahoma State, Texas and USC. Evans is a four-star prospect, ranked 33rd in the nation in the 247Sports composite. Clemson was long thought to be a serious contender for Evans, who is originally from Greenville, S.C., but the Tigers didn’t make the cut.
Evans played his high school ball in the Dallas area last year and will finish his career there.
With a big need at point guard, the Illini have made Evans a priority recruit in this class that already includes commitments from Simeon wing D.J. Williams and Plainfield East guard Aaron Jordan.
On Tuesday another Texan, five-star big man Elijah Thomas, included Illinois in his top six. Evans and Thomas are close friends and have casually expressed a desire to play together in college. Oklahoma State and Illinois are the common schools on each of their lists.
Shake Milton, a 2015 combo guard, has also listed Illinois in his final four.
The Illini have three scholarships left to give for the 2015 class.
