It's Peak Season for Homeless Kittens

The staff at the Champaign County Humane Society and I are hoping for a good turn out at this Saturday's "Kitten Shower" adoption event.  As of last week, our shelter had about 80 more animal residents than it did at this same time last year.  It would sure be nice to see our population go down after this weekend, instead of up!

Knowing that we would have a cadre of kittens ready to go up for adoption by about July first, we have focused our efforts throughout the month of June on finding homes for our mature feline residents.  Our "Free Over Three" promotion has been quite successful!  We waived the standard adoption fee for cats over three years of age and instead asked only for a donation from the CCHS wish list.  Many cat adopters were quite generous and donated as much value as the standard fee anyway.  If you're interested in adopting an adult cat, the free-over-3 promotion is on through Thursday.

But if you've got your heart set on a kitten, come out to the shelter on Saturday!  The adoption fee for kittens will be waived for the first five approved adopters of the day, and we'll be providing goodie bags to all kitten adopters.  The Kitten Shower is also a donation drive and we're asking the public to drop off items from our Kitten Wish List.  Kitten season puts a real strain on resources here at the shelter, so we deeply appreciate any donations.
