CD Projekt RED has released its first batch of screenshots for the recently revealed "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt."
The previous games have been pretty fantastic, so I'm very hopeful they'll follow through on their promises that this game will be much bigger in scope.
They're claiming Wild Hunt will be a non-linear, open-world role-playing game — and the final episode of the series. It appears that the basic storyline will be about Geralt of Rivia's quest to find the Wild Hunt and recover all of his lost memory. But how the story progresses, as in the previous games, will be determined by player decisions. Different decisions take everything in vastly different directions, so multiple playthroughs can tell completely different tales.
The developer is claiming the world will be 30 times bigger than The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, and that players will be able to navigate on horseback and by sailing. They also promise that world is programmed to function as an ecosystem, so "predators hunt for other animals and villages defend themselves against monsters" and none of it is scripted.
The Witcher 3 will be available in 2014 for "all high-end platforms, including PlayStation 4."
Here's just a taste of what the game might end up looking like:
