E3 LA report: How's it feel to be an agent of Mayhem?

So I went to E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, in Los Angeles earlier this month, wrote two stories — about the Sony and Microsoft press conferences — and then fell silent.

#SonyE3: Just a whole lot of games

LOS ANGELES – PlayStation came out of the gate sprinting Monday night – with a game trailer revealing the next iteration of its “God of War” series -- at its pre-E3 game summit press conference.

“God of War” – yes, the same name as the first – reunites with Spartan warrior and slayer of most of the Greek pantheon Kratos, but now he’s got a beard!

And a son.

#XboxE3: Microsoft announces two new versions of Xbox One

LOS ANGELES – Microsoft announced a new, slimmer, slightly-improved game console Monday. Then it stole its own thunder by announcing "the most powerful game console ever built" will be coming holiday 2017.

I'm not sure what it's thinking.

Gear VR a relatively inexpensive introduction to the hot new thing

Every so often, tech companies try to sell us on some hot new thing — and a lot of it has an impact on video games.

Around 2005, they really started pushing high-definition televisions. It took a little bit of doing, but ultimately, it paid off. HD sets are now the standard.

Gaming Bits: Deus Ex times 3, and Syberia 3?

I’m suffering from information overload here, as game publisher’s PR firms crank out news releases ahead of next week’s E3 convention in Los Angeles.

I mean, I got three separate press releases related to “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided” in the space of five minutes Wednesday. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Gaming Bits: Are you ready for some Mayhem?

You may have heard already, but Champaign-based game developer Volition announced their next property Monday: “Agents of Mayhem.”

Details are scant, so far, as it appears they’re trying to wait until E3, next week in Los Angeles, to spill most of the beans. However, I’m trying to get some more details before the show.

"Overwatch" not my jam, but it may be yours

But many other people love it — with good reason

Most of the hype around Blizzard’s latest, “Overwatch,” makes it sound like the greatest thing since peanut butter and jelly smeared on sliced bread.

Don’t expect me to be quite that effusive.

If you’re into team-based multiplayer first-person shooters, yes, it is fantastic. It very well may be your jam.

Gaming Bits: Steam sale; Lawbreakers; etc.

Welcome to the latest edition of Gaming Bits.

Let’s start off with a question: Porn publisher/website Naughty America has offered to sit down with me “to discuss the expanding role immersive mobile content plays in adult entertainment, how gamers utilize VR headsets for adult content and explain the technological horizon.”
