Gaming Bits: Deus Ex times 3, and Syberia 3?

Gaming Bits: Deus Ex times 3, and Syberia 3?

I’m suffering from information overload here, as game publisher’s PR firms crank out news releases ahead of next week’s E3 convention in Los Angeles.

I mean, I got three separate press releases related to “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided” in the space of five minutes Wednesday. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

I’ve got news about “Syberia 3,” for one thing. Yes, there will finally be a follow-up in this third-person puzzle-solving adventure series, 12 years after “Syberia 2” was released.

And to really confuse me, there’s a new trailer for “Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.” Seriously, 2.8? Final prologue? I can only shake my head.

Let’s get this started:

Ex machina

So. Three press releases for “Deus Ex.” What do they say?

Number one: Two new game modes — Breach and GO — will be introduced in “Mankind Divided.” Breach is an FPS-style hacking-heist-with-puzzles arcadey experience. Your job will be to infiltrate servers, using rewards to upgrade yourself so you can take on more difficult missions. New challenges and features are supposed to be rolled out as updates. GO is a turn-based infiltration puzzle game, played from an isometric viewpoint.

Number two: If you want to know how the game will play, here’s an almost 18-minute-long video of demo footage for you.

Number three: Oh look, another video. But this one is real-world cool. Game developer Eidos-Montreal teamed up with robotics startup Open Bionics and game-accessory maker Razer to develop an affordable, working prosthetic hand based on the one used by game character Adam Jensen. Such bionic arms are expected to be available in 2017, with blueprints and designs to be released royalty-free, so anyone with access to a good 3-D printer will be able to make one. It’s been 12 years!

Video game studio Microids, along with creator Benoit Sokal, released a teaser trailer Wednesday for “Syberia 3,” a game that many didn’t think would ever be made.

It’s in development for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Mac, with a scheduled release date of Dec. 1, 2016.

According to the press release, “‘Syberia 3,’ the latest chapter of Kate Walker’s journey, begins with Kate adrift and unconscious in a makeshift boat. By good fortune, a caravan of Youkol — who also appeared in ‘Syberia 2’ — discovers her before she draws her last breath. Determined to escape their common enemies, Kate decides to help the nomads accomplish their ancestral tradition as they accompany their snow ostriches on their seasonal migration to reproduce in the sacred steppes. A voyage through enchanting and desolated lands begins, one that will see the young woman experience her most dangerous and marvelous adventure yet, with her enemies always on her heels.”

Let’s just hope it really begins with a recap of “Syberia” and “Syberia 2.” Even better, how about releasing remastered versions of those on modern systems?

2.-huh now?

I’ll admit it. I’ve completely lost track of what’s going on in the “Kingdom Hearts” series. When game updates get into decimal places other than .5, you know they’ve gone off the deep end.

If you’ve somehow kept up with this game, please clue me in to what’s going on. I’ve attached the new trailer for “Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue,” which features original Keyblade wielder Aqua in a battle against the Heartless.

The game — slated for PS4 this December — is ultimately supposed to preview for players the upcoming events in “Kingdom Hearts III.” What? No 2.9 first?
